BACKGROUND

  • BCRHC has run this very popular program SINCE 1984. Has formed the future nucleus of our Tyke, and Novice programs, year after year.
  • A once per week skills development program, at an advanced level and tempo (for age).
PURPOSE
  • To give aspiring potential future “Rep” players extra instruction, at an advanced level (for age), at a high tempo/pace.
  • To supplement the basic Canadian Hockey Initiation Program taught in House League.
DESIGNED FOR
  • 5 and 6 year old Burlington residents who:
  • have a KEEN interest in hockey, and perhaps aspire to play “Rep” in the next year or so.
  • players who want to improve their skating, and hockey skills, to prepare themselves for a potential “Rep” career
  • players who can handle a fairly intense program (for age)
  • players who have at least basic skating skills
NOT DESIGNED FOR
  • players who have only a casual interest in hockey
  • beginning skaters
  • players who are not mentally, or emotionally ready to follow instructions, and generally, not able to handle a fairly intensive program (for age)
SKILLS TAUGHT
  • Skating skills is the primary focus e.g. proper striding/stopping/turning/edge control.
  • Other hockey skills are also taught e.g. puck handling/shooting/passing etc.
PROGRAM COMMENCES AND ENDS
  • Starts first Thursday after Thankgiving.
  • Program shuts down over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays.
RE: PLAYERS 5 Years of Age
  • Priority is given to 6 year olds. Any 5 year olds will be placed on a waiting list, until the on ice program starts. We will draw from the waiting list of 5 year olds if our program is not full
F.A.Q.’S

Q. Is the Jr. Mites Program “Rep” Hockey?

A. No. Rep hockey does not start until Tyke (age 7). Our program is a skills development program, in preparation for “Rep” in the next year or so

Q. Are there ‘tryouts’?

A. Not per se. Player must have at least basic skating skills, as this is not a ‘learn-to-skate’ program. Child must also be mentally and emotionally mature enough to handle an intense program (for age)
